Snakes in Fujairah Deserts

Postby root on Mon Apr 06, 2009 12:46 pm

Don't know if these are true, but someone sent these photos, apparently taken by contractors working in the deserts around Fujairah.

They look like rattle-snakes. Do we have them here?

That was exactly my thought..the sand does not look what I've seen. But then Fujairah is slightly different from the rest of the emirates, being on the Indian Ocean coast side. Again, I hope it ain't from here...gives me the creeps!

Well, there is discussions if this is really in Fujairah, or just someone making it up.

The first fact to figure out what snake it is. Some say its rattle-snake and others claim them to be vipers. If rattle-snakes, then its not UAE, as those don't exist here. However, if vipers, then yes, they are found here.

Looking closer, it looks like the saw-scaled viper, which is even more common in Oman..and Fujairah is pretty close to Oman!
