Facelifted 5 series

Postby T.N.T on Wed Jan 10, 2007 7:39 pm

The 5 series gets a face-lift after 3 years into production. There aren't many cosmetic changes as most updates are 'skin deep'.
The 3.0l V6 engine gets more power, torque and returns better economy thanks to BMW's newly introduced HPI (High Precision Injection) system.
Visually, the face-lifted 5 Series adopts clear headlamp lenses and new headlamp graphics, flush surrounds for the classic kidney grille, revised air ducts to accent the car's width and LED indicators in the taillamps. Inside, BMW's design team has provided the new car with higher-quality materials and revised door trim.

Nice, but not any significant changes. I guess why mess around with something working so well.

Same body size?

Most of the stuff remains the same but this was just an excuse to add BMW's new engine dynamics software and transmission in the 5 series. Just look at the shifter in the last pic, its an all new shifter which is only in the NEW BMW X5 and the 5 series. Expect other Bimmers to get it too. (7 series won't be getting it though)

Yeah, HPI is also pretty cool. Its supposed to save 5-15% fuel consumption and I think this means less road tax on this vehicle in some countries (with greener cars paying less road tax)..that makes owning it cheaper.
